Sometime in the summer of 1995, three friends – Bob, Raja and Dada – got together in a greasy-spoon joint called ‘Mug’s Up’ and discussed ways to write off their lunches together. They pooled their resources and decided to do what they knew about and were good at – selling silk fabrics to the interior decorating trade.
Bob, now retired, chose the name ‘Catania Silks’ for their collection after a pretty little isle in the Greek archipelago he had just visited. Cecile Bradbury helped them design their first collection of silk fabrics.
Guy Chaddock was an innovator when he started making furniture in the 1950s. Along with a trusted cadre of skilled artisans, he created designs and finishes unlike anything else in the marketplace. Chaddock family’s legacy continues today from its home base in North Carolina with an array of indoor pieces for living and entertaining spaces as well as dining and bedrooms. The company specializes in modern designs with classic touches constructed of wood or metals. In 1987 the Dutchman Richard Schütte founded his own wholesale business with the support of his wife Ellen Steentjes. In 1991 he launched the first collection under the Chivasso brand name. Cole & Son was founded in 1875 by John Perry, son of a Cambridgeshire merchant. In those days the company was situated in Islington, north London, an area famous for the 190 hand block printing companies working there in the 18th and 19th centuries.
